Jacques Perconte es un alquimista moderno, un maestro mago de la imagen. El píxel, ese elemento de medida poco convincente de la imagen digital, se convierte en toda una paleta de posibilidades, un pincel fino o una marca de vibración, de tecnología en el ámbito de las artes plásticas, ya como poesía binaria, anarquismo romántico, o una alucinación febril de imágenes distorsionadas; donde siempre el ojo es engañado por la magia subyacente de lo que ve.

Digital alchemy. Jacques Perconte is a modern alchemist, a master magician of the image. The pixel, that underwhelming element of measure of the digital image, becomes a whole palette of possibilities, a fine brush or a plank vibration, technology in the realm of plastic arts, binary poetry, romantic anarchism, a feverish hallucination of distorted images; always the eye, deceived by the underlying magic of what it sees. A universe behind a universe, like the machinations of algorithms always pulsating to discover the true reality of light: in what we see lies a hidden veil, a fantasy of representations. Manet, Monet, Degas, Cezanne, Matisse, the canvas, or Perconte, and the computer.

Designed and published online on October 14th 2004, restored for The Wrong (Again) – New Digital Art Biennale on November 1st 2015, the website I Love You by French artist and net-art pioneer Jacques Perconte is not only a wonderful achievement of his research on image files visualization through the Internet, but also a fundamental piece in his artwork, and this for three reasons: first, it crystallizes a history of audiovisual technologies in the web age; next, it allows the analysis of his singular inventions on plasticity which are shaped by the offensive processes and techniques Perconte has developed until 2015; finally, it makes explicit the artist’s constant will to put the body to the test of digital technologies (in this case the partner’s body) and to literally inject life (each and every thought, interest, feeling, emotion, excitement, and desire aroused in him by the beloved body).
