I wanted to compare some of Vladimir Solovyov’s original passages from War and Christianity with its counterparts in Puiu’s film to try to reveal a modern reading of an old moral debate. Then I thought it would be better to focus on mise-en-scène and the thoughtful support of dialogue that intertwines the characters through its fluid panning shots.

Las conversaciones son el motor de la película. Como si habitáramos un diálogo de Platón, o comprobáramos la sentencia borgiana: en algún punto, todas las conversaciones se reducen a considerarlas platónicas o aristotélicas. A cada espectador le corresponde debatir su propia introspección o sentir la pesadez del lenguaje caer en sus hombros.

Some years ago, Romanian filmmaker Cristi Puiu gave an acting workshop at Les Chantiers Nomades center in Toulouse, where the actors and actresses had to work based in the book Three Dialogues and the Tale of the Antichrist, from the philosopher, theologian and Russian writer Vladimir Soloviev.

Malmkrog retoma con más austicia y riesgo Tres diálogos y El relato del Anticristo, de Soloviev, ya que añade personajes (sobre todo mujeres) a las conversaciones inspiradas en las formas de Platón, y reordena el modo en que el filósofo ruso concibió estos fragmentos.
