CROSSROADS 2022. PROGRAMA ONLINE ECHO 2

Hasta el 16 de octubre está online una versión gratuita de la edición 2022 del CROSSROADS, festival anual de cine organizado por la Cinemateca de San Francisco y curada por el cineasta Steve Polta. En la edición presencial realizada en agosto, se visionaron 67 obras de cine, video y performance de 71 artistas de 18 países y territorios, y esta edición virtual se presentan dos programas que plantean discusiones o correspondencias sobre los contrastes entre la experiencia sensible individual y el surgimiento de un estado mediático corporativo; las colisiones y mezclas entre medios analógicos y digitales; el papel que juega la intimidad en los espacios de comunicación pública, entre otros. En este texto, comentaremos el programa ‘Echo 2: space to stretch my longing’, y que reúne obras de EE.UU. y Canadá.

A friend become like a ghost was the 8th program of the past Crossroads 2019 edition, which took place in San Francisco, California. The amazingness of this event is found in the subtlety of the curatorial work in it, paints and invokes the powerful expansive states of experimental filmmaking under mystical and poetical premises. A friend become like a ghost is an encounter with light, with film, with ourselves as light and shadow, as life and death.

STEVE POLTA: “I THINK LIGHT IS KEY IN TERMS OF PRODUCING THE SENSUAL ENCOUNTER I’M AFTER”

Steve Polta is one of the most interesting experimental filmmakers and film curators from the Bay Area, USA. Nowadays he works as the artistic Director of the San Francisco Cinematheque and curates the Crossroads Film Festival program. His film explores the expressiveness of light and soundscapes in super 8 format, which have been screened in alternative film venues and film festivals such as Anthology Film Archives, the Echo Park Film Center, The Museum of Modern Art (New York), The New York Film Festival’s Views from the Avant-garde, SFMOMA, Pacific Film Archive, among others.
