IFFR ROTTERDAM 2024: PROGRAMA EXPERIMENTAL ‘FINE GRAIN’

El título de este programa de cortometrajes presentado en el Festival de Rotterdam alude a la textura óptica del fotograma, a la materia del celuloide que se vuelve una naturaleza más tangible. Estos representantes del “fine grain” dentro del programa de obras experimentales se convierten en ejemplos de esas morfologías, ya sea a través del registro simple de realidades, como intervenciones en la película, el uso de determinados ciclos de movimientos o desde el flicker o la yuxtaposición.

This technical feature in black and white, color and sepia transcends the mechanical feats which in themselves are remarkable. The narrative of space-time, allows for a different perception of the experimental narrative, where the displacement of space is fundamental for recreating this “time of concentration” where the shifts and the placement of the image are something that one is completely aware of. In some way, Larose’s work teaches how to watch again.

Q & A: ALEXANDRE LAROSE

Alexandre Larose is a Montreal-based filmmaker, and has screened work at venues like Projections (NYC), Wavelengths (Toronto), Images Festival (Toronto), Media City (Windsor), the Oberhausen Short Film Festival, and the International Film Festival Rotterdam. He has also produced the installation Round Trip at the Eastern Bloc in Montréal (in collaboration with Heather Reid) and has made numerous experimental shorts including 930 (2006), Le Corps Humain (2006), Artifices #1 (2007), La Grande Dame (2011), and j (2008, co-directed with Solomon Nagler).
