CROSSROADS 2024: ULÍA, ELEPHANT’S FOOD, BISAGRAS, NOMATITUDE, BOUNDARY EXERCISE, CLOUD FILM, TODAY IS A VERY SPECIAL DAY SOME-TIMES Y WIND

Tras casi quince años de trabajo, este 2024, la edición de CROSSROADS, bajo la curaduría del cineasta experimental Steve Polta, reunió una serie de programas, de los cuales dos fueron online. Y en este texto damos cuenta del programa Online Echo 1, que concentró ocho cortometrajes: ULÍA #1 (2024) de Laura Moreno Bueno, Elephant’s Foot (2023) de Ellie Vanderlip, Bisagras (2024) de Luis Arnías (Venezuela), Nomadtitude (2021) de Zulaa Urchuud (Mongolia), Boundary Exercise (On Perambulation) (2022) de Elizabeth M. Webb, cloud film (2024) de Tristen Ives, TODAY IS A VERY SPECIAL DAY, some-times (2023) de Matt Whitman (US) y Wind (2023) de Mike Hoolboom.

IMAGES FESTIVAL 2018: PERFECT FILM, THE RARE EVENT, 3 DREAMS OF HORSES

One mode of transparency is in admitting that temporal and spatial distance meant I didn’t physically attend Images Festival. This relegates my observations of the films I watched deficient, insofar as they are subject to the rarity and the ‘live-ness’ of their intent: I did not experience the atmosphere or energy of curated and presented programmes. Still, in the interests of opacity, I engaged with select content on my own terms and, in so doing, created my own rare event.
