PAOLA VELA: “USO EL BLANCO Y NEGRO COMO SÍNTESIS DE LA REALIDAD”

Rutinas ha sido uno de los mejores films peruanos estrenados el año pasado, y que afirma a Paola Vela como una cineasta y artista visual con sello propio. En este film, y con recursos del cine etnográfico, explora procesos pedagógicos en una escuela superior de Arte, donde va desglosando modos de ver y enseñar. Tres docentes son registrados durante sus clases en las aulas, captando así relaciones con los estudiantes a través de un sentido del tiempo que permite precisamente detectar la naturaleza de estas rutinas.

PANORAMA: LOS DÉBILES DE RAÚL RICO Y EDUARDO GIRALT BRUN

Los débiles se estrenó este año en la sección Forum de la Berlinale y ganó el premio a la mejor película nacional en el Festival Internacional de Cine de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (Ficunam). Uno de los codirectores es mexicano: el también artista Raúl Rico, cuyo primer largometraje fue Noche de resurrecciones (2015), estrenado en el Riviera Maya Film Festival. El otro, Eduardo Giralt Brun, es de Venezuela. En su país dirigió el corto No te voy a dejar sola (2014); luego trabajó como asistente de dirección en la película mexicana Te prometo anarquía (2015) de Julio Hernández Cordón.

LISA TRUTTMANN: “EN EL FILM ENSAYO NO TODO TIENE QUE SER VERIFICABLE”

Su último trabajo, Tarpaulins, es un hermoso ensayo presentado en el reciente Diagonale, festival de cine austriaco, que se realizó en marzo de este año. En este logrado film, Truttmann dedicó dos años al seguimiento de tiendas de fumigación de termitas en Los Ángeles y utilizó ese fenómeno para reflexionar sobre conceptos de hogar, asombro, destrucción y creación. Hablamos con Lisa sobre Tarpaulins, su inspiración detrás de ella y su trabajo como artista de imagen en movimiento.

LISA TRUTTMANN: “IN THE ESSAY FILM, NOT EVERYTHING CAN BE VERIFIED”

Lisa Truttmann (1983, St. Pölten) is an Austrian artist and filmmaker based in Vienna. “In her work she weaves documentary elements into staged settings and essayistic montages, tracing the structures of social, urban and natural landscapes” (www.lisatruttmann.at). She studied Transmedia Arts at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna and received a Fulbright scholarship for her graduate studies in Film/Video at California Institute of the Arts. Her latest film Tarpaulins is a beautiful essay film screened at the festival of Austrian film Diagonale in Graz this March. In that compelling new work she dedicated two years to follow sculpture-like tents for termite fumigation in Los Angeles and used that phenomena to reflect upon concepts of home, uncanny, destruction and creation. We talked to Lisa about Tarpaulins, her inspiration behind it and her work as a moving image artist.

All You Can Eat Buddha is a film alike its protagonist who spurs discomfort and captivation at the same time. The feature debut of Canadian cinematographer Ian Lagarde had its world premiere at TIFF and carried on with its European Premiere at the 47th International Film Festival Rotterdam. The plot is wrapped around Mike, a taciturn and corpulent tourist visiting El Palacio, an all-inclusive resort in an anonymous Spanish-speaking country.

En Inland sea, Kazuhiro Soda Soda describe el pequeño pueblo con todo detalle desde la pesca de peces pequeños apenas visibles por la cámara o el mercado que es un arquetipo japonés, que cualquier persona puede imaginar con pescados expuestos en forma simétrica y ordenados por tamaños y colores casi de forma artística y que reconcilia al director con su país en forma de redescubrimiento, ya que vive desde el año 93 en Estados Unidos.
