BERLINALE 2022: À VENDREDI, ROBINSON DE MITRA FARAHANI

Los ídolos y la cercanía que los que tienen el acceso a ellos permiten. Ese sería el más escueto resumen de esta película documental de la cineasta iraní radicada en Francia, Mitra Farahadi. Ella corre el velo de la fascinación de los legados para dejarnos ante el humano que los traspasa. Una conversación, vía email, atípica, extraña, burlona y amable que por partida doble desmitifica y sigue asombrando sobre sus protagonistas.

BERLINALE 2022: ALCARRÀS BY CARLA SIMÓN

The winner of the recent Golden Bear at the 72nd Berlinale, Alcarràs, by the Spanish filmmaker Carla Simón, is a defense of a mode of production that has fallen into disrepair due to capitalism, but also of a state of things from the safeguarding of tradition, from the old -and heartfelt- idea of ??home.

BERLINALE 2022: DRII WINTER DE MICHAEL KOCH

Con Drii Winter, el director suizo Michael Koch —quien dirigiera el largometraje Marija en 2016— llegó a la competición oficial de la Berlinale ’72. Una mezcla de drama alpino suizo y la tragedia clásica que la vemos marcada por los cantos del coro del pueblo. Koch cuenta acá con actores naturales para hablar de determinismos y costumbres, del otro y el amor.

BERLINALE 2022: ALCARRÀS DE CARLA SIMÓN

La ganadora del reciente Oso de Oro de la 72º Berlinale, Alcarràs, de la cineasta española Carla Simon, es una defensa sobre un modo de producción venido a menos por el gran capitalismo, pero también sobre un estado de las cosas desde la salvaguarda de la tradición, desde la vieja -y sentida- idea del hogar.

MEDIA CITY FILM FESTIVAL 2022: FOCOS DEDICADOS A BEATRIZ SANTIAGO MUÑOZ Y XIMENA CUEVAS

Dos de los focos del Media City Film Festival están dedicados, respectivamente, a la puertorriqueña Beatriz Santiago Muñoz y a la mexicana Ximena Cuevas. Los trabajos de la primera tienen una orientación etnográfica; los de Cuevas se inscriben en una vertiente dedicada a la apropiación de Hollywood y de la industria cultural mexicana.

BERLINALE 2022: THE NOVELIST’S FILM BY HONG SANGSOO

In In front on your face, one of Hong Sangsoo’s films released last year, Lee Hye-young plays an actress who returns to her country due to a critical situation that gradually reveals itself in the film. Clearly, due to the climate, the tone, the gestures and dialogues of the characters, we are in the branch of Sangsoo’s films where there is a dramatic component (in this case, the farewell, the announcement of death), with an intention more thoughtful than his other fresher, more casual-looking films. While in The Novelist’s Film (So-seol-ga-ui yeong-hwa, 2022), another side of the coin appears.

BERLINALE 2022: SE HACE CAMINO AL ANDAR BY PAULA GAITÁN

Although this short film by the Colombian-Brazilian filmmaker Paula Gaitán had its premiere at the Tiradentes festival in 2021, and was announced at the 71st edition of the Berlinale, due to the pandemic its exhibition had to be postponed and rescheduled pending the face-to-face edition of the festival. For this reason, Se Hace Camino al Andar (The Path When Walking, Brazil, 2021) is part of the Closer to the Ground exhibition, a series of installations at the Silent Green Kulturquartier, as part of the Forum Expanded program at the current Berlinale, which runs until February 20th. Gaitán’s short shares the stage with works by Haig Aivazian, Grace Ndiritu, Musquiqui Chihying, Maya Schweizer, Rosalind Morris, among others.

BERLINALE 2022: THE NOVELIST’S FILM DE HONG SANGSOO

The Novelist’s Film está hecha en un blanco y negro más tensado de lo usual y hay un viraje hacia el color que funciona como frontera entre ficciones. Es la manera de Sangsoo para sumergirnos en el universo del film de la novelista que se plantea en las conversaciones y que proviene del mundo de la ensoñación, del deseo de extender la creación y las formas de la expresión, y que poco a poco, luego de algunas elipsis, se puede materializar desde lo aparentemente simple.

BERLINALE 2022: SE HACE CAMINO AL ANDAR DE PAULA GAITÁN

Si bien este cortometraje de la cineasta colombo brasileña Paula Gaitán tuvo su estreno en el festival de Tiradentes en 2021, y fue anunciado en la edición 71º de la Berlinale, debido a la pandemia se tuvo que postergar y reprogramar su exhibición a la espera de la edición presencial del festival. Por ello, Se hace camino al andar (Brasil, 2021) forma parte de la muestra Closer to the Ground, una serie de instalaciones en el Silent Green Kulturquartier.

BERLINALE 2022: MATO SECO EM CHAMAS BY ADIRLEY QUEIRÓS AND JOANA PIMENTA

Mato Seco em Chamas culminates with a procession of motorcyclists after the fire of the repressive apparatus, represented in the armored police vehicle. An ending that adopts the epic western as a declaration of principles, but in this case, principles of elementary subversion in the face of repression. A remarkable film in the filmography of both filmmakers.
